FRANCO'S STORY
As founder and owner of Bordignon Marble & Granite, I would like to thank you for visiting our website. Please allow me to share my story with you...
As a teenager, I worked the summers at my father and uncle’s construction business. Mario and Luigi Bordignon were hard working Italian emigrants who arrived in Canada in the 1950’s. The excitement of Bordignon Construction’s success spans four decades. From chimneys to skyscrapers, they did it all and changed the landscape of Vancouver.
In 1976, at the age of 13, I spent the summer working in the marble company they owned at the time. I was immediately drawn to the majestic beauty of marble and what could be formed and created by hand. There were no CNC machines or other high-tech equipment back in those days - it was all done by hand.
The experience of that summer greatly influenced me. Becoming aware that I had the ability and skill within me to create beautiful things from stone absolutely inspired me.
Unfortunately, the construction company was unable to survive the recession of 1982. As you can imagine, these were very difficult and challenging times. So we picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off, and started slowly moving forward and rebuilding.
In the fall of 1984, I started operating Bordignon Marble & Granite Ltd. There was limited amount of work at that time, so we had to do a bit of everything. Believe it or not, granite was not the product of choice for kitchens back then. It was not until the late 1980’s, that natural stone became popular and we have not looked back since.
My father Mario worked with me until 1989. His tireless energy and strong work ethic has set the foundation for my success. The way I see it is “I stand on the shoulders of giants”.
Thank you for becoming a part of my story!
